Russia Holds Baltic Sea Drills as NATO Exercises

Russia's navy has conducted military drills in the Baltic Sea, practicing unguided missile launches, bombing runs, and missile strikes, according to the Interfax news agency. These exercises took place as major U.S.-NATO exercises were also ongoing in the region.

NATO's BALTOPS Exercise

The NATO BALTOPS naval exercise, which began on June 4 and runs until June 20, is the largest war game in the Baltic Sea this year. It involves around 20 vessels from 15 nations and approximately 6,000 personnel.

Russia's Drills

Russia conducted its own drills from June 8 to June 9 in and near its Kaliningrad exclave. The exercises involved around 10 military aircraft, including fighter jets and bombers, as well as two small missile ships, as reported by Interfax.

Kaliningrad, located on the Baltic coast between NATO members Lithuania and Poland, has a population of around 1 million. The strategic location of the exclave often makes it a focal point for military activities in the region.
