Russian missile and drone strikes killed at least seven people on Monday and wounded more than two dozen others across Ukraine, Ukrainian officials reported. The attacks targeted the central city of Dnipro and the southern city of Zaporizhzhia, both near the front lines of the ongoing war.
Deadly Strikes in Dnipro
In Dnipro, a Russian missile struck a private business, killing five people and wounding 28 others, with four in critical condition. Regional governor Oleksandr Ganzha described the injuries: “People have traumatic brain injuries, shrapnel wounds, fractures, and blast trauma.” The National Police of Ukraine released photos showing paramedics tending to the wounded under bright sunlight.
Attack in Zaporizhzhia
In Zaporizhzhia, a drone strike hit a city bus, killing two people. Photos published by regional authorities showed a white minibus with blown-out windows and back doors. The city, located about 30 kilometers from the front line, is the capital of a region that Moscow claims as its own and has been fighting to capture.
Escalation of Aerial Attacks
Both Russia and Ukraine have escalated aerial attacks in recent months as stalled negotiations have made no progress in halting the four-year war. Dnipro, an industrial city around 100 kilometers from the front line, has been regularly targeted by Russia’s military. The latest strikes underscore the continued devastation inflicted on civilian areas despite international calls for de-escalation.
