UK police have arrested a schoolgirl in Manchester following an incident at a school where three people were injured, authorities confirmed on Tuesday.
Incident Details
Greater Manchester Police responded to reports of a stabbing at a school in a northern suburb of the city. The Co-op Academy was placed on lockdown as emergency services, including police cars and helicopters, arrived at the scene.
Police stated that three individuals sustained injuries, but they are not believed to be life-threatening. Local media reports suggest the injuries were caused by a knife.
Police Response
“Officers are currently responding to an incident at a school,” Greater Manchester Police said in a statement. “Three people have been injured, however injuries aren’t believed to be serious at this time.”
The force added that there is no wider threat to pupils or staff. “Emergency services remain on scene and we are supporting the school.”
Broader Context
The incident comes amid heightened concerns over youth knife crime in the UK. The government has been taking steps to curb the sale of banned knives and machetes, including online sales. In February, a 13-year-old boy was arrested and charged for the suspected stabbing of two boys at a school in London.
Authorities have not yet confirmed the age of the arrested schoolgirl or the specific charges she faces. Investigations are ongoing.
