At least seven explosions were heard in multiple parts of Iran on Thursday evening amid a military escalation with the United States. Iranian media reported the blasts but did not provide details on their cause or resulting casualties. According to Mehr News Agency, two explosions were heard near the city of Bushehr and the nearby town of Choghadak in southern Iran. Ehsan Jahaniyan, Bushehr deputy governor for political and security affairs, told the state news agency IRNA that the explosion heard in the city “was caused by the timely response of the air defense system.” He stated that a military facility on the outskirts of Bushehr was struck by a projectile fired by the "US-Zionist enemy," without elaborating further.
Explosions Near Naval Zone in Konarak
The agency also reported explosions in the southern city of Konarak. Kanarak Governor Mohammad Younis Haqqani confirmed that two explosions hit a naval military zone in the city, according to IRNA. He said the area was targeted in two separate waves by enemy fighter jets on Thursday evening. Haqqani added that an investigation into the scope and details of the attack is currently underway.
Background of Escalation
Iran and the US have exchanged attacks over the past two days amid an escalation following Iranian attacks on three commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. Tehran launched a series of strikes on Thursday targeting US military infrastructure in Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, and Jordan in retaliation for a second day of overnight US attacks. The situation remains tense, with both sides continuing military posturing.
