Court Directs KP Government to Submit Recruitment Records
The Federal Constitutional Court on Tuesday ordered the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government to produce the complete record of all Class IV sanitation worker recruitments made since 2016. A bench comprising Justice Aamir Farooq and Justice Hasan Azhar Rizvi issued the directive while hearing a petition that challenged the recruitment process.
Allegations of Political Interference and Fake Letters
During the proceedings, the counsel for the petitioners argued that appointments had been made despite a ban on political interference. They alleged that some candidates were recruited based on recommendation letters issued by a member of the provincial assembly (MPA). The Additional Advocate General for KP rejected this claim, stating that the letter attributed to the MPA was fake—it carried neither signatures, nor a reference number, nor an official seal. He remarked that such forged documents could easily be generated on a computer.
Courtroom Exchange and Observations
Justice Aamir Farooq responded that at least such fake documents should not be produced before the court, drawing laughter in the courtroom. The bench emphasized that it would examine whether the appointments were carried out in accordance with the law and prescribed rules.
Overqualified Applicants and Broader Implications
During the hearing, it also emerged that candidates holding Master’s degrees had applied for the sanitation worker posts. The court’s order aims to ensure transparency and accountability in the recruitment process, which has faced scrutiny over alleged irregularities.
