Attack on Rangers Workshop Thwarted
Security personnel foiled an attack on a Pakistan Rangers transport workshop near Mausamiyat Chowrangi in Karachi's Gulistan-e-Jauhar area on Saturday night. Heavy gunfire and explosions were heard during the ensuing operation as Rangers and police launched a search and clearance operation inside the workshop.
Details of the Incident
According to police sources, the attackers targeted the main gate of the Rangers transport workshop. Security personnel responded immediately, preventing the assailants from entering the premises. One terrorist was believed to have detonated an explosive device after the failed attempt.
Official Response and Investigation
No official statement was issued until late Saturday regarding casualties, the exact nature of the explosion or the number of terrorists involved. Police officials said the exact nature of the attack, including whether it was a suicide bombing, was still being investigated.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah took notice of the reported explosion and gunfire and contacted the inspector general of police and the Karachi police chief, according to the CM's spokesperson. The chief minister directed police to immediately reach the site, take necessary measures and submit a detailed report on the incident.
Emergency Services Deployed
Rescue 1122, Edhi and Chhipa ambulances were dispatched to the scene following the incident, while Rangers and police cordoned off the area.
