Governor Faisal Karim Kundi expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for approving the supply of 200,000 metric tons of wheat through the Pakistan Agricultural Storage and Services Corporation (PASSCO). The governor highlighted that the province requires approximately 3.6 million metric tons of wheat, but transportation from Punjab continues to encounter obstacles.
Obstruction at border checkpoints
Kundi alleged that wheat and flour shipments are being blocked at nine checkpoints along the Punjab-Khyber Pakhtunkhwa border. He emphasized that under the Constitution and the new wheat policy, the free movement of wheat and flour is a fundamental right of the province.
Appeal to PM and CM
The governor urged Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to take notice of the situation and ensure the smooth movement of wheat and flour into Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He stressed that the supply of remaining wheat and flour required by the province must be guaranteed, and the people should not be deprived of affordable wheat and flour.
Federal minister's assurance
Federal Minister for National Food Security Rana Tanveer Hussain stated that the decision to supply wheat was made to shield the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from rising inflation. He added that instructions have been issued to ensure prompt and effective delivery of wheat through PASSCO.
