PM Shehbaz Sharif to Visit Quetta for Security Review
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will chair a high-level meeting in Quetta on Thursday (today) to assess the law-and-order situation in Balochistan during a daylong visit to the provincial capital, as reported by Express News. The prime minister will also preside over a meeting of the provincial Apex Committee.
Meeting Agenda and Briefings
The meeting will review the overall law and order situation in the province, while relevant authorities will brief the prime minister on the prevailing security situation. This comes after Balochistan witnessed three major terrorist attacks this week, in which 42 security personnel and civilians were martyred across different parts of the province.
Military Response and Counterterrorism Operations
The military said on Wednesday that counterterrorism operations in response to the attacks had killed 54 terrorists. The operations are ongoing to eliminate the remaining threats.
Chief Minister Bugti's Stance
On Tuesday, Chief Minister Balochistan Sarfraz Bugti chaired a meeting in Ziarat following an attack that martyred nine policemen. In a statement, Bugti warned that anyone challenging the writ of the state will face only defeat and destruction. The chief minister reaffirmed that indiscriminate operations against terrorists and their facilitators will continue until the last militant is eliminated. He stressed that those who raise arms against the state will find no refuge in Balochistan. Bugti emphasized that there will be no compromise on the peace, stability, and development of Balochistan, and every conspiracy against the province will be crushed with strength, determination, and national unity.
