Punjab Bans Events, Weapons, Hate Speech During Muharram

The Punjab Home Department has issued a notification ahead of Muharram, declaring that no new events or modifications to existing mourning processions and gatherings will be permitted. The directive aims to maintain public safety and religious harmony throughout the province.

Strict Prohibitions on Weapons and Flammable Materials

Under the orders, carrying or displaying weapons and flammable materials in public places is strictly prohibited without prior official permission. The government has also banned provocative slogans, gestures, and any verbal, written, or digital content that could promote sectarian or communal tensions.

Action Against Hate Speech

Officials have warned that any attempt to spread religious or ethnic hatred through speeches, traditional media, or social media platforms will be dealt with under Section 144. The restrictions are designed to prevent untoward incidents and preserve harmony during the holy month.

Pillion Riding Ban and Exemptions

The government has imposed a ban on pillion riding across Punjab. However, exemptions have been granted to women, senior citizens, and law enforcement personnel. All restrictions will remain in effect from the 1st to the 10th of Muharram throughout the province.
