A deadly suicide attack targeted a police checkpost in the Wahwa area near the Punjab–Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa border on Sunday, resulting in the martyrdom of two police personnel, injuries to at least six others, and extensive damage to the security installation.
Attack Details
According to officials, terrorists belonging to proscribed TTP launched a suicide assault on the Jhungi Police Checkpost (Hazrat Umar Farooq) in the afternoon. They rammed an explosives-laden vehicle into the main gate of the facility, triggering a powerful explosion.
Casualties
District Police Officer (DPO) Muhammad Sadiq Baloch confirmed that two police officials, identified as Ghulam Abbas and Mudassar Jiskani, sustained critical injuries and later embraced martyrdom due to the severity of their wounds. At least six other police personnel were seriously injured in the attack. The injured include Muhammad Hanif, Riaz, Naimat, Usama, Abdul Rehman, and Falak Sher, among others. All wounded personnel were immediately shifted to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital, Taunsa, for emergency medical treatment.
Damage and Response
Officials said the intensity of the blast completely destroyed the checkpost structure, causing significant operational damage to the security facility. Following the attack, Regional Police Officer Muhammad Azhar Akram, DPO Baloch, and other senior law enforcement officers reached the site with heavy contingents of police and security forces. The area was cordoned off, and a search operation was launched to collect evidence from the scene. Authorities also confirmed that efforts were underway to recover the remains of the suspected suicide attacker.
Collateral Damage
The force of the blast led to the collapse of roofs and walls of several houses in the surrounding area. More than a dozen local residents were also injured, including Muhammad Abrar, Hamidullah, Muhammad Hanif, Abdul Latif, Muhammad Hali, and others. Eyewitnesses reported panic and chaos in the vicinity following the powerful explosion, which was heard from a considerable distance. Rescue teams and local volunteers rushed to the area to assist in shifting the injured to medical facilities.
Investigation
Speaking to reporters, DPO Muhammad Sadiq Baloch confirmed that the suicide bomber was also killed in the blast. He said further investigations were underway and that additional action would be taken in light of forensic evidence and findings collected from the site.
