LAHORE: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Lahore on Friday rejected the post-arrest bail applications of 12 workers affiliated with the proscribed Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) in a case involving arson, vandalism, and alleged attacks on police personnel.
Court Proceedings
ATC Judge Shahid Sikandar presided over the hearing of the bail applications. The accused individuals include Naeem Shah, Zeeshan Ahmed, Rashid, Bilal Liaquat, Muhammad Hussain, Abdullah, Abdul Majeed, and Intizar Hussain, among others. The court dismissed their pleas after listening to arguments from both sides.
Prosecution's Stance
During the proceedings, the state prosecutor strongly opposed the bail requests, arguing that the accused were directly involved in acts of violence, including arson and assaults on law enforcement personnel. The prosecutor emphasized that the nature of the crimes was serious and that granting bail could hinder the investigation and encourage further unlawful activities.
The court, after considering the evidence and arguments, concluded that the accused were prima facie involved in the alleged offenses and denied them bail. The case pertains to violent protests and attacks on police that took place earlier this year, leading to multiple arrests and legal actions against TLP supporters.
