RAWALPINDI: An armed motorcyclist shot and killed the Vice President of Gujar Khan Anjuman-e-Tajran, Malik Mehboob, along with his brother, on Railway Road within the limits of Gujar Khan police station in Rawalpindi. The accused fled after firing.
Incident Details
According to police officials, Vice President Malik Mehboob was sitting at his grocery wholesale store with his brother Malik Mehmood when an armed suspect on a motorcycle arrived, pulled out a pistol, and started firing. Both brothers were seriously injured and succumbed to their wounds soon after, while the suspect managed to escape.
Background of the Conflict
Sources confirmed that some time ago, Malik Mehboob had been involved in an accident with a car belonging to a person named Naseer, who was reportedly posted in the Revenue Department. Mehboob had registered a case against Naseer. While Naseer and others wanted to reconcile and end the matter, Mehboob and his companions were not willing to do so. The police believe this issue had become a point of contention between both parties.
Investigation and Response
The police have said that the young man accused of shooting the two brothers is reportedly named Moazzam. Further investigations are underway. Operation SSP Malik Tariq Mehboob and other police officials have already investigated the site of the murder and collected evidence. The bodies have also been shifted to the hospital for postmortem.
Rawalpindi CPO Khalid Hamdani took notice of the double murder. The police spokesperson said that as per initial investigations, the murder was likely carried out out of resentment for the case registered against the party who caused the car accident. The police have vowed to arrest the accused soon.
