Punjab Prisons Confirms Imran Khan's Health and Security at Adiala Jail
Imran Khan Healthy in Adiala Jail: Punjab Prisons

The Punjab Prisons Department has officially confirmed that former prime minister Imran Khan remains in good health and is receiving all legally entitled facilities while detained at Rawalpindi's Adiala Jail. This statement comes in direct response to concerns raised by his sister, Aleema Khan, regarding his wellbeing and security conditions.

Family Concerns and Official Response

Aleema Khan had written urgent letters to both the Punjab Home Department and the Punjab Prisons inspector general, expressing serious apprehension about her brother's health condition and safety. In her correspondence, she highlighted that no family member had been able to meet Imran Khan since November 4, prompting her to demand immediate access for both family members and legal representatives.

The concerned sister also referenced international media reports that have been questioning Imran Khan's security situation, seeking immediate clarification about his current condition and the circumstances surrounding his detention. She strongly urged the Punjab government to provide prompt responses regarding the former prime minister's wellbeing while emphasizing the need for complete transparency about his health and safety.

Jail Conditions and Facilities

In their Friday statement, the Punjab Prisons Department provided detailed information about Imran Khan's current situation. According to officials, six rooms of a barrack are at his disposal within the jail facility. The department confirmed that Bushra Bibi, Imran's wife who is also incarcerated at the same facility, is permitted to meet him once per week.

The former prime minister maintains access to television and newspapers for current affairs updates. Additionally, he is allowed to have food brought from outside the prison once weekly, with specific mention of desi chicken and fish being permitted. The department emphasized that all meetings with the PTI founder are arranged strictly according to the Jail Manual, with visitor meetings conducted only after thorough review of relevant rules and regulations.

Enhanced Security Measures

Meanwhile, security at Adiala Jail has been significantly heightened due to potential threats and the overall law-and-order situation. Police sources revealed that the facility has been placed on high alert, with five checkpoints established around the jail for the first time in its history.

The comprehensive security deployment includes:

  • 700 police personnel, including 23 inspectors, performing 24-hour security duties
  • Duty divided into two 12-hour shifts for continuous coverage
  • SHOs from 12 police stations alongside female officers on duty
  • Over 700 personnel from Riot Management Police Force, Punjab Constabulary, and various police stations

Security staff have been equipped with rubber bullets, tear gas, batons, shields, and anti-riot gear. The special security plan for the prison's perimeter will remain in force indefinitely, with heavy deployment maintained at five strategic pickets around the jail facility.
