Members of the National Assembly on Sunday paid tribute to former prime minister and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Benazir Bhutto on the occasion of her 73rd birth anniversary, honoring her legacy of democracy, public service and women's empowerment.
Tribute Led by PPP Lawmaker
During the parliamentary session, PPP Parliamentarians MNA Aijaz Hussain Jakhrani said Benazir Bhutto dedicated her political life to strengthening democratic institutions and protecting the rights of the people. He noted that she made history by becoming the first woman to serve as prime minister of Pakistan as well as the first female head of government in the Muslim world, describing her leadership as an inspiration for women across the region.
Jakhrani said Benazir Bhutto remained committed to democratic ideals until her assassination and that her sacrifices continue to inspire political workers and supporters. He added that her efforts in promoting social welfare, democratic governance and women's rights left a lasting impact on the country's political landscape.
Defence and International Recognition
The PPP lawmaker also highlighted her role in reinforcing Pakistan's defence capabilities, saying initiatives taken during her tenure contributed to strengthening the country's strategic preparedness. Calling her an influential leader whose contributions extended beyond Pakistan, he said Benazir Bhutto's vision and services earned recognition throughout South Asia and the wider international community.
Prayers Offered
At the conclusion of the tribute, Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq requested Hafiz Mian Muhammad Numan to lead the House in Fateha, with members offering prayers for the elevation of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto's ranks in Jannah.
