Pakistan is expected to face a spell of intense heat from June 7 to June 12, with temperatures likely to rise sharply in several parts of the country, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD). The weather department said Karachi is expected to experience temperatures ranging between 40°C and 43°C during the forecast period. In Sindh and Balochistan, temperatures could reach extremely high levels, with some areas likely to record between 48°C and 51°C.
Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Also Affected
Several districts of Punjab are also expected to remain under severe heat, where temperatures may fluctuate between 44°C and 48°C. Similarly, the plain regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are forecast to experience very hot weather conditions, with temperatures expected to range from 41°C to 46°C.
Health Risks and Precautions
The PMD warned that the prolonged rise in temperatures could increase the risk of heat-related illnesses and advised the public to take necessary precautions. Citizens have been urged to avoid unnecessary exposure to direct sunlight, especially between 10am and 4pm, when temperatures are usually at their highest. The department also recommended drinking plenty of water, staying in shaded or cool areas and taking preventive measures to protect against heat exhaustion and dehydration.
Vulnerable Groups Advised to Be Extra Cautious
Authorities have advised vulnerable groups, including children, the elderly and outdoor workers, to exercise extra caution during the heatwave period.
