Parliament Sessions Set for June 10, Budget on June 12

Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Tariq Fazal Chaudhry announced on Tuesday that summaries have been sent for convening sessions of both the National Assembly and the Senate. In a post on X, he stated that the National Assembly session is proposed for June 10 at 5:00 pm, while a separate summary has been sent to summon the Senate session on June 10 at 4:00 pm.

Federal Budget Presentation Delayed

Tariq Fazal Chaudhry further indicated that the federal budget is expected to be presented on June 12. The budget, after thorough deliberations between coalition partners of the ruling alliance, is scheduled to be presented on Friday, June 12. The finance bill 2026-27 has been postponed twice due to disagreements between main coalition partners, PML-N and PPP, over several controversial matters including the NFC award.

Reasons for Delay

The delay in the budget presentation stems from differences of opinion between coalition partners regarding the BISP program, the NFC award, and controversies surrounding the country's IMF program. Parliamentary experts noted that senior leaders of the ruling parties have instructed all members to ensure their presence until June 12. The opposition parties have yet to announce their final decision and strategy regarding participation or boycott of the budget proceedings.

Efforts to Reach Consensus

To resolve the deadlock, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari held a meeting to address the controversial issues. The ruling party, PML-N, currently requires support from coalition partners to pass the finance bill 2026-27. Meanwhile, Saad Rafique has rejected claims of a PML-N rout in the Gilgit-Baltistan polls.
