Robber Killed in Shootout with Police in Taxila

Rawalpindi - Taxila police on Friday reported that a robber was allegedly killed in a shootout with law enforcers on Farm Road late Thursday night. The robber was hit by a bullet fired by his fleeing accomplice.

Incident Details

A spokesperson for the city police stated that the deceased robber, later identified as Waqas, was involved in cases of robbery coupled with murder, burglary, and possessing illicit weapons. The statement added that Waqas and another man were involved in snatching a bike at gunpoint on May 21. In that incident, his accomplice was arrested and the bike recovered.

Police Patrol and Encounter

According to the FIR lodged by a sub-inspector of Taxila police station, a police party was patrolling Farm Road for crime prevention and checking. Around 12:50 am, a motorcycle was seen coming from the opposite direction with two suspicious individuals. When signaled to stop, the riders attempted to speed away, lost balance, and fell a short distance away.

After falling, they got up and ran backward, opening direct fire on the police party. The police team took cover behind the official vehicle and fired in self-defense. During the exchange of fire, the suspects continued firing as they retreated into the fields.

Discovery of Deceased

After following them into the fields, it was discovered that one unidentified young suspect had been killed by the firing of his own accomplice. Taking advantage of the darkness, the other suspect escaped. A body search revealed a National Identity Card (CNIC) belonging to Asif Hussain Shah, a resident of Taxila. A 30-bore pistol was recovered from the deceased's right hand.

Legal Proceedings

The police filed a case under sections 302 (intentional murder), 324 (attempt to murder), 353 (assault to deter public servant), 186 (obstructing public servant), 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code, and section 13-2(a) of the Punjab Arms Amendment Ordinance 2015 for keeping illicit weapons.

Separate Homicide Incident

In a separate incident, Dhamial police registered a murder case after a charred dead body of a woman was found in a house in Liaqat Colony on Chakri Road early Friday morning.
