Supreme Court Ends Four-Day Week, Restores Normal Schedule

The Supreme Court of Pakistan has officially withdrawn its earlier notification that introduced a four-day working week across the country's courts, thereby ending the energy conservation measures that had been implemented within the judicial system since March 2026. According to an official statement, Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi approved the withdrawal of the March 10 notification, which had introduced austerity and energy-saving initiatives aimed at reducing electricity consumption and operational costs within the judiciary.

End of Energy Conservation Plan

The Supreme Court stated that the notification will no longer be effective from June 15, 2026. As a result, all administrative arrangements made under the earlier directive have been revoked. The energy conservation plan had led courts across the country to adopt revised working hours and schedules. Under the policy, the Islamabad High Court and district courts had shifted to a four-day working week, operating from Monday to Thursday as part of broader efforts to conserve resources.

Return to Normal Schedule

With the withdrawal of the notification, the judiciary will return to its previous administrative structure and routine working schedule. The Supreme Court further clarified that any future decisions regarding court operations, office timings, and working days will be made in accordance with the relevant laws, rules, and administrative requirements. The move formally ends the temporary austerity measures introduced earlier this year and restores the conventional court working framework across the country.
