RAWALPINDI: Four people, including two policemen, have been booked in a case after a suspect facing prosecution in a Counter Narcotics Force (CNF) Punjab drug trafficking case escaped from police custody while undergoing treatment at Benazir Bhutto General Hospital (BBGH). An ASI, a constable, the suspect's son and an unidentified accomplice have been accused of facilitating the escape in the First Information Report (FIR) lodged under the relevant sections of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).
Details of the Escape
According to police, the suspect, identified as Jameel Khan, was receiving treatment in Surgical Ward No 9 of BBGH and was under the supervision of ASI Imran Khan and Constable Qamar Ali, who had been assigned to guard him. In the FIR, lodged by Sub-Inspector Zahid Iqbal, it was stated that during a routine inspection of the suspect and the police personnel on duty, neither the accused nor the guards could be found at the designated location. Subsequent inquiries revealed the suspect had allegedly been taken out of the ward by his son, Adnan Jameel, along with an unidentified accomplice.
Legal Action
The police have registered a case against ASI Imran Khan, Constable Qamar Ali, Adnan Jameel, and the unidentified accomplice under relevant sections of the PPC. Investigations are underway to apprehend the escaped suspect and the accused facilitators. The incident has raised serious questions about security protocols for high-profile suspects in hospitals.
