US-Iran Tensions, Pakistan Crash, UK Bans Influencers

Welcome to Unraveled with Marvi Sirmed, Episode 119 on New Wave Global. In today's show, we cover three major developments from the last 24 hours.

US-Iran Escalation

The United States launched attacks on more than 12 targets in Iran on June 9, including Bandar Abbas and Kashan Island, calling it an act of self-defense. In response, Iran closed the Strait of Hormuz to all vessels and retaliated against US military ships. President Trump warned of total destruction as tensions spike after more than three months of US-Iran conflict.

Pakistan MI-17 Helicopter Crash

A Pakistan Army MI-17 helicopter crashed near Muzaffarabad, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, on June 10 due to a technical fault. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed that all personnel onboard were killed. The crash occurred during ongoing protests by the banned Joint Awami Action Committee. A board of inquiry has been ordered to investigate the incident.

UK Bans American Influencers

US influencers Cenk Uygur of The Young Turks and Hasan Piker were denied entry to the United Kingdom on June 1. The British government cancelled their travel authorization, stating that their presence may not be conducive to the public good. Both individuals blame their criticism of Israel and Gaza policy for the ban.
