LAHORE: PTI Central Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram on Tuesday dismissed circulating reports regarding Dr Yasmin Rashid's health, asserting that she is alive and currently incarcerated in Kot Lakhpat Jail.
Dr Yasmin Rashid's Health Status Confirmed
Dr Yasmin, aged 74, is a gynaecologist and cancer survivor who has been in custody since May 12, 2023, facing multiple charges related to the riots that followed the arrest of PTI founder Imran Khan. Her health has deteriorated repeatedly, with hospitalisations in May and July 2024, and again in 2025 when she experienced severe abdominal pain and breathing difficulties.
In a post on X, Akram stated: "Dr Yasmin is, Alhamdulillah, alive and is in Kot Lakhpat Jail." This statement directly counters false rumours about her death.
Background of the Case
Dr Yasmin Rashid, a prominent PTI leader, was arrested amid the widespread unrest that erupted after Imran Khan's detention. She has been held under various charges, though her legal team has consistently argued for bail on medical grounds due to her age and pre-existing conditions.
Her health struggles include a history of cancer and recent episodes requiring emergency medical attention. The latest incident in 2025 involved acute abdominal pain and respiratory issues, raising concerns among family and supporters.
Impact and Reactions
The PTI has repeatedly called for her release on humanitarian grounds, citing her deteriorating health. The rejection of death rumours by a senior party official aims to quell misinformation and reassure the public.
Authorities have not issued an official statement on her current health condition, but Akram's confirmation provides clarity amidst speculation.
