Thatta Court Orders Encroachment Removal Near Palijo Mausoleum

The Court of Civil Judge and Judicial Magistrate in Thatta issued a directive on Tuesday for local police to remove encroachments from land adjacent to the mausoleum of the late philosopher, politician, writer, and historian Rasool Bux Palijo. The order came in response to an application filed under Section 145 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) by members of the Awami Tehreek party, seeking restoration of possession and removal of encroachment.

Application Filed by Party Members

Sajjad Ali Chandio, a key member of Awami Tehreek, told reporters outside the District and Sessions Court in Thatta that they had submitted the application after illegal occupants failed to produce any title documents. He stated that the court subsequently directed Thatta Police to clear the encroachment and establish a police picket at the site. Chandio also noted that an earlier application to the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Thatta had not resulted in any action against the miscreants.

According to Chandio, the individuals dismantled the boundary wall of Rasool Bux Palijo's mausoleum and illegally occupied 20 gunta of land, where the annual event marking his death anniversary is held. The illegal occupation has sparked outrage across Sindh.

Awami Tehreek Leadership Voices Concerns

Central President of Awami Tehreek, Advocate Vasand Thari, who led a 20-member team of lawyers, said the illegal occupation had triggered anger across the province. Supporters and admirers of the late Rasool Bux Palijo had taken to the streets to draw the provincial government's attention and demand stern action against the perpetrators, but to no avail. Thari further mentioned that the police report submitted to the court confirmed the illegal occupation.

The hearing of the case has been adjourned until July 21. Separately, a protest rally was taken out from Makli to Thatta against the tearing down of posters and photographs of Rasool Bux Palijo and attempts to defame his character.
