Punjab Minister Azma Bokhari Mocks KP's 'Manhole Cover' Development Claims

Punjab Minister for Information and Culture, Azma Bokhari, has launched a sharp critique against the development assertions made by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government. In a statement issued on Wednesday, she ridiculed what she termed as the hollow progress in the so-called "province of change," where even the installation of manhole covers is being projected as a significant achievement.

Sarcastic Remarks on Social Media

Azma Bokhari took to social media to share before-and-after pictures of manhole covers installed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. In a sarcastic tone, she remarked, "Wow! Such massive development is taking place in the province of change, and we didn't even know about it." She expressed astonishment that posters highlighting these installations also featured two different images of Sohail Afridi, as if the project were a historic or landmark accomplishment.

She added that while people are often criticized for pointing out a lack of development, it is now routine tasks like installing manhole covers that are being officially publicized with such fanfare. "The public is no longer impressed by mere images and publicity campaigns," she emphasized. "People want real development, basic facilities, and visible performance—not the glorification of routine work as major achievements."

Contrast with Punjab's Development

Azma Bokhari further stated that while large-scale public welfare projects are visibly taking shape across Punjab, other provinces are excessively publicizing minor works. This, she argued, exposes the reality behind what she called hollow development claims. "It's a stark contrast that highlights where genuine progress is happening," she noted.

Security Concerns and Court Proceedings

In a related development, Punjab Minister Azma Bokhari has decided not to appear in court in person for the recording of her statement due to serious security concerns and pressing official commitments. An application filed before the court by her counsel, Ali Bokhari, states that the provincial minister is facing security threats that make her physical appearance impractical.

The application further mentions that her important official responsibilities as a cabinet minister also restrict her ability to appear in court. The court has been requested to allow Azma Bokhari to record her statement through a video link, ensuring her full cooperation with the judicial process while addressing security considerations.

It is pertinent to mention that the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has already registered a case regarding the circulation of a fake video attributed to Azma Bokhari. The case names Falak Javed, Atiq Riaz, and others as accused. Earlier, the court had summoned Azma Bokhari to appear in person, but through the latest application, it has been urged to issue orders permitting video link testimony.

This situation underscores the ongoing political tensions and security challenges faced by public figures in Pakistan, as they navigate both governance duties and personal safety concerns.
