KARACHI: Sindh Minister for Food Makhdoom Mehboobuz Zaman on Tuesday issued a stern warning against hoarders and those involved in artificial price hikes, asserting that there is no shortage of wheat in the province. The minister's remarks came during a high-level meeting convened to review the recent surge in wheat and flour prices and the overall market situation.
Meeting Focuses on Market Stability
The session, chaired by the minister, thoroughly examined wheat availability, flour prices, hoarding practices, and factors contributing to artificial inflation. Addressing the attendees, Minister Zaman emphasized the Sindh government's commitment to ensuring affordable and quality flour for the public, vowing zero tolerance for profiteering or hoarding.
Chief Minister's Involvement
The minister revealed that he had held a detailed meeting with Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, who took immediate notice of the situation and requested a comprehensive report on wheat stocks and availability across the province. "There is no shortage of wheat or supply crisis in Sindh. However, certain elements are trying to create artificial price hikes and burden the public," he stated.
Legal Action and Confiscation
Minister Zaman warned that strict legal action would be taken against those forcing consumers to purchase expensive flour. He added that illegally hoarded wheat would be confiscated. "Hoarding directly affects the common man," he said, reiterating that the government would make decisions in the public interest without succumbing to any pressure.
The meeting underscored the provincial government's resolve to stabilize prices and ensure that citizens have access to essential commodities at fair rates. Authorities are expected to intensify market inspections and take swift action against violators.
