PESHAWAR: Awami National Party (ANP) President and Senator Aimal Wali Khan has asserted that the challenges confronting Pashtuns cannot be resolved through armed groups or militancy, emphasizing that education, awareness, and skills development remain the only sustainable route to progress. In a statement issued from the Bacha Khan Centre on Sunday, he reiterated the ANP’s stance that all political and social struggles must be pursued within the constitutional framework, arguing that confrontation with the state cannot yield lasting solutions.
Heat Wave Alert for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
A heat wave alert has been issued for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with temperatures expected to reach up to 46°C. Aimal Wali stated that in any civilized society, the use of force is the exclusive responsibility of the state, adding that the emergence of non-state armed groups has significantly contributed to instability and insecurity in the region. He warned that attempts to address grievances through militancy ultimately inflict the greatest harm on Pashtuns by disrupting economic activity, damaging livelihoods, and undermining social cohesion.
Emphasis on Education and Knowledge Economy
Highlighting the importance of education, he said nations cannot compete in the modern world without investing in contemporary sciences, technical expertise, and youth development. He described a knowledge-based economy as essential for economic growth and meaningful participation in an increasingly interconnected global environment. The ANP chief said Pakistan’s future depends on peace, education, and the strengthening of state institutions. He added that citizens who fulfill their civic obligations have a right to the protection of their lives, property, and livelihoods.
Balochistan and Commitment to Peaceful Means
Referring to Balochistan, Aimal Wali said Pashtuns share deep historical ties with the people of the province and that the ANP remains committed to pursuing political objectives through peaceful and constitutional means. He reiterated that the party has no association with separatist or armed groups and condemned attacks targeting civilians, transport vehicles, and workers. He maintained that durable peace, security, and development can only be achieved through education, effective governance, and adherence to the rule of law rather than through violence or armed struggle.
