The National Assembly on Thursday suspended the membership of PTI lawmaker Iqbal Afridi for the current session following allegations of inappropriate behavior towards security staff at Parliament House. The decision was made during a session chaired by Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, who expressed strong displeasure over the incident and moved a motion for Afridi's suspension.
Details of the Incident
According to the Speaker, the PTI MNA allegedly misbehaved with a security official stationed at Gate No. 1 of Parliament House. After reviewing the report, the House approved the suspension motion through a majority vote.
Speaker's Directive
Following the passage of the motion, Ayaz Sadiq directed Afridi to leave the chamber immediately, warning that the House would be compelled to enforce his removal if he failed to comply. The Speaker emphasized that no leniency could be shown towards lawmakers who disrespect security personnel or violate parliamentary discipline.
After the ruling and final warning, Iqbal Afridi left the National Assembly without further protest.
