Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Attaullah Tarar, announced that the government has provided significant relief to the salaried class in the budget, while achieving macroeconomic stability in Pakistan. He urged the opposition to recognize these accomplishments.
Address to the National Assembly
Speaking during a session of the National Assembly of Pakistan, Tarar emphasized that Parliament is the guardian of democratic traditions. He recalled past instances of disorderly conduct, document tearing, and protest-oriented behavior in the House, and called on the opposition to appreciate the government's positive initiatives.
Tax Relief Measures
Tarar detailed that no tax has been imposed on individuals earning up to Rs. 50,000 per month. Those earning between Rs. 50,000 and Rs. 100,000 per month will face a tax rate of only 1 percent. This relief aims to support the salaried class amid economic challenges.
Economic Management and Stability
The minister stated that the government successfully managed the economy during difficult circumstances and steered the country away from the risk of default. He credited Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for making political sacrifices in the national interest and achieving economic stability through negotiations with international financial institutions.
Improvement in Economic Indicators
Tarar highlighted that foreign exchange reserves were once under severe pressure, import-related businesses were suffering, and opening letters of credit had become increasingly difficult. However, he claimed that inflation has declined significantly, interest rates have come down, and the economy is now moving in the right direction. He also acknowledged the role of national institutions and the country's security leadership in the stabilization process.
Call for Opposition Cooperation
While acknowledging that criticism of the budget and protests are the opposition's democratic right, Tarar stressed that positive measures should also be acknowledged. He expressed hope that Pakistan would emerge before the world as a strong and stable economy in the future.
