Peshawar - Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi on Thursday expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for approving the supply of wheat to the province through the Pakistan Agricultural Storage and Services Corporation (PASCO). He urged authorities to ensure the unrestricted movement of wheat and flour from Punjab to meet the province's requirements.
Wheat Supply Details
In a statement, the Governor said Khyber Pakhtunkhwa requires 3.6 million metric tons of wheat. The Prime Minister had approved the supply of 200,000 metric tons through PASCO. However, the movement of the remaining wheat from Punjab was still facing restrictions. He alleged that wheat and flour were not being allowed into Khyber Pakhtunkhwa through nine checkpoints located along the inter-provincial border.
Constitutional Right
Faisal Kundi emphasized that under the Constitution and the new wheat policy, the free movement of wheat and flour is the right of the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He urged the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister of Punjab to take notice of the situation and ensure uninterrupted transportation of wheat and flour to the province.
Call for Action
The Governor stressed that, in addition to the PASCO allocation, the province's wheat and flour requirements should be met without hindrance. He said the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa should not be deprived of their right to affordable wheat and flour.
