The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has accelerated work on a comprehensive package of legal reforms aimed at enhancing the efficiency, transparency and accessibility of the provincial justice system. The initiative follows special directives from Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi.

Special Committee Reviews Key Laws

A key meeting of the special committee constituted to review and reform provincial laws was held in the conference room of the Law Department under the chairmanship of Law Minister Aftab Alam. Senior officials from the Law Department and representatives of the Advocate General’s Office participated in the session, where several important laws were examined in detail.

The committee focused on aligning the legal and judicial framework with contemporary requirements to ensure citizens have access to prompt, affordable and effective justice. Participants deliberated on proposed amendments to a range of key laws, with members presenting recommendations and observations that have formed the basis of an initial draft of the reform package.

Draft Reform Package to Be Submitted

The committee has been meeting regularly over the past 20 days to conduct a comprehensive review of existing legislation and finalise a broad set of legal reforms. According to officials, the draft proposals will soon be submitted to Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi and the provincial cabinet for consideration and final approval.

Officials said the proposed reforms are expected to mark a significant step towards strengthening the rule of law, improving the timely delivery of justice and establishing a modern, transparent legal system that is better aligned with the needs and expectations of the public.

Background and Context

These reforms are part of a broader effort by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to improve governance and public service delivery. The provincial assembly recently approved demands for grants worth Rs270.5 billion, as the government defended its budget.
