A total of 1,528 mourning processions and 4,402 Majalis concluded peacefully across Faisalabad division during the first 10 days of the holy month of Muharram. The divisional and district administrations, police and other law enforcement agencies took comprehensive security and administrative measures.
Security Deployment and Cooperation
More than 15,000 police personnel of the region performed duties round the clock, while the Pakistan Army, members of the National and Provincial Assemblies, peace committees and religious scholars from different schools of thought extended full cooperation to maintain peace. Commissioner Musarrat Jabeen, RPO Sohail Akhtar Sukhera, Deputy Commissioner Captain (retired) Nadeem Nasir and CPO Tanveer Hussain personally monitored security and administrative arrangements along the routes of Ashura processions and ensured effective implementation of the security plan.
Public Comfort Measures
More than 60 water stalls were established along the procession routes to provide cold drinking water to mourners. In view of the extreme heat, continuous water spraying through anti-smog guns was also carried out to provide a comfortable environment for participants. Commissioner said that maintaining peace remained the top priority during Muharram. She added that effective planning, coordination among institutions and cooperation from citizens helped ensure the peaceful completion of Muharram activities.
