ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Central Secretary Information Nadeem Afzal Chan on Sunday accused the federal government of attempting to engineer the Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B) elections and warned that such tactics would not succeed in depriving the people of the region of their mandate.
In a statement, Chan alleged that two federal ministers currently present in the region were attempting to influence the electoral process by exerting pressure on the administration and state machinery. He said reports were emerging that presiding officers were facing pressure not to issue Form-45, raising serious questions about the transparency of the election process.
Chan emphasized that the PPP would not allow any interference in the democratic process and called on the Election Commission to ensure free and fair elections. He urged the people of Gilgit-Baltistan to remain vigilant and protect their right to vote.
The allegations come amid heightened political tensions in the region, with opposition parties accusing the ruling coalition of using state resources to sway the polls. The federal government has denied any wrongdoing, stating that it is committed to holding transparent elections.
