Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz orders strict Eid security

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has directed authorities to ensure foolproof security arrangements during Chand Raat and Eidul Azha across the province, with strict implementation of security standard operating procedures (SOPs). Chairing a high-level meeting, she ordered the installation of metal detectors and walk-through gates at all Eid congregation venues. She also directed assistant commissioners to meet religious scholars and brief them on the government's security and cleanliness measures.

Enhanced Security Measures

The chief minister ordered extra security arrangements at sensitive locations and directed authorities to ensure patrolling in markets on Chand Raat, along with the deployment of women police personnel. She emphasized real-time monitoring through the Safe City Authority system during security operations and ordered strict implementation of the ban on camps established by proscribed organizations for collecting sacrificial hides. District police officers have been directed to visit their areas to ensure enforcement of the ban, and authorities have been ordered to prevent the dissemination of hate material.

Action Against Hooliganism

The chief minister also ordered action against one-wheeling and hooliganism by motorcyclists during the holidays. Home Secretary Ahmad Javed Qazi informed the meeting that Eid prayers would be offered at 38,507 locations across the province. Section 144 has been imposed to ban the roasting of siri paye at public places, and action will be taken against those disposing of animal remains in drains and public areas. The CM directed authorities to ensure strict enforcement of the ban on firing and display of weapons.

Cattle Market Security

A Punjab Police spokesperson said more than 4,000 personnel have been deployed for the security of 222 cattle markets across the province. In Lahore, more than 600 personnel are deployed for six markets. Inspector General of Police Abdul Kareem said comprehensive measures should be ensured for the security of traders and buyers. No cattle market will be allowed at any place other than the points approved by the district administrations, and legal action will be taken against illegal cattle markets and sale points.
