Sindh Allocates Rs100 Billion for Karachi Development

Sindh Information, Transport and Mass Transit Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has announced that the provincial government has allocated more than Rs100 billion for Karachi in the 2026-27 budget. He stated that the development and prosperity of Karachi, along with the provision of basic amenities, remain top priorities for the Sindh government. The funds will be utilized for water supply, drainage, construction and rehabilitation of roads, and other public infrastructure and civic facilities.

Focus on Modern Public Transport

Memon emphasized that the Pakistan Peoples Party believes in practical service rather than slogans. He said addressing Karachi’s problems is both the government’s responsibility and commitment. One of the biggest needs for Karachi residents is access to modern, safe, and dignified public transport. The government is taking historic steps to meet this requirement, with 500 modern electric buses and double-decker buses soon operating on the city’s roads.

Employment and Youth Initiatives

Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said creating new employment opportunities is a key pillar of the Sindh government’s economic strategy. The budget places special emphasis on securing a brighter future for the youth. Thousands of young people will benefit from new jobs through industrial zones, development projects, transport initiatives, and major infrastructure schemes. He reiterated that the PPP has always centered its politics on the welfare of the common man, including workers, farmers, youth, and the middle class.

Addressing Negative Perceptions

Memon noted that some elements attempt to project a negative image of Karachi for political purposes. However, he said the people are witnessing ongoing development projects, improved public transport, infrastructure works, and public welfare initiatives. Despite financial and other challenges, the Sindh government continues to prioritize public welfare and development. He described the 2026-27 budget as not merely a collection of figures, but a roadmap for practical progress toward a brighter future, greater employment opportunities, and a more prosperous Sindh.
