The Sindh government is set to present its budget for the fiscal year 2026–27 in the provincial assembly next week, according to official sources. June 16 and 17 are being considered as potential dates for unveiling the financial plan, which will detail the province's expected revenues and expenditures.
Budget Delays and IMF Conditions
Officials revealed that the budget preparation process faced delays due to compliance with International Monetary Fund (IMF) conditions and the implementation of the National Fiscal Pact. Despite these hurdles, the government aims to have the budget approved by the Sindh Assembly before the start of the Ashura period.
Under assembly rules, at least five days of debate are required on the budget before its final approval process can be completed. Sources confirmed that Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah is expected to present the budget once again, marking his tenth presentation in the provincial assembly.
Development Spending Reduction
The upcoming budget is also expected to reflect a reduction in development spending. The development budget is likely to decline by up to 24 percent compared to the current fiscal year. This cut aligns with broader fiscal consolidation efforts and adherence to federal fiscal targets.
Meanwhile, in a separate initiative, a US-supported masterclass has equipped 50 Pakistani entrepreneurs with skills to thrive in global digital markets. The program aims to boost Pakistan's digital economy and enhance export capabilities.
