Punjab Food Authority Cracks Down on Contaminated Water Plants

The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has taken decisive action against water safety violations in Muzaffargarh district, temporarily closing six water filtration plants after laboratory tests confirmed bacterial contamination. During extensive operations across multiple areas, food safety teams discovered Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteria in water samples collected from these facilities.

Operation Details and Affected Areas

The crackdown was conducted under the supervision of Director Operations South-I, Shehzad Khan Mugsi, with teams inspecting facilities in Permit Road, Alipur, Khairpur Sadat, Jatoi, and Muzaffargarh itself. According to Focal Person Haider Gillani, laboratory analysis clearly showed that the water samples failed to meet the quality standards established by the Punjab Food Authority.

The authority promptly sealed all six RO filtration plants due to the serious health risks posed by the bacterial contamination. The Director General of Punjab Food Authority emphasized that these facilities will remain closed until they implement comprehensive corrective measures and demonstrate compliance with safety standards.

Zero Tolerance Policy on Water Safety

The PFA leadership has adopted a firm stance on water safety violations. "Water is a divine blessing, and any negligence in its safety will not be tolerated," stated the Director General. This action reflects the authority's commitment to protecting public health from contaminated water sources.

The operations are part of a broader initiative following the directives of the Chief Minister of Punjab, who has ordered the utilization of all available resources to ensure the public receives high-quality food and water. The PFA remains actively engaged in field operations to monitor and maintain safety standards.

Broader Food Safety Campaign

In related food safety efforts, the Punjab Food Authority conducted 117 inspections throughout the district last week to verify the quality of essential food items. During these inspections, authorities imposed total fines of Rs. 51,000 for various violations and safely disposed of 6 kg of expired products recovered from grocery stores.

One milk collection center received substantial penalties after its samples failed quality testing, while several food outlets received improvement notices for substandard hygiene and storage conditions. These coordinated efforts demonstrate the PFA's comprehensive approach to food and water safety across Muzaffargarh district.
