Environment Department Cracks Down on Smog Violations
The Environment Protection Department (EPD) has taken decisive action against construction contractors in Faisalabad for flouting anti-smog regulations. On Tuesday, the department halted work at three different construction sites and initiated legal proceedings against the responsible contractors.
Inspections Reveal Serious Violations
According to Deputy Director Environment Department Usman Azhar, EPD teams conducted thorough inspections in Chak No 7-JB along Daewoo Road. During these inspections, officials discovered that contractors were operating without implementing mandatory anti-smog measures.
The construction sites were found operating without water sprinkling systems and proper material covering, leading to significant dust and dirt particles blowing into the air. This violation of standard operating procedures prompted immediate action from the environmental watchdog.
Legal Action and Site Closure
The EPD not only stopped all construction activities at the three sites but also sealed the machinery found at the locations. The department has now filed applications for registration of cases against the contractors involved in these environmental violations.
This crackdown comes as part of the department's ongoing efforts to combat smog and air pollution in the region. The failure to implement basic dust control measures like water sprinkling and material covering represents a serious breach of environmental protocols, especially during periods of high air pollution.
The action demonstrates the department's commitment to enforcing anti-smog SOPs and holding violators accountable for their environmental negligence.
