Floods in Dera Ghazi Khan Cause Widespread Damage
Continuous rainfall in the Koh-e-Sulaiman range and surrounding areas has led to severe flooding in streams and hill torrents across Dera Ghazi Khan. The flooding has damaged houses, disrupted communication links, and adversely affected daily life in several localities.
Major Flood Surge Hits Wadoor Stream
A significant flood surge of approximately 25,000 cusecs passed through Wadoor stream, severing road connectivity between the affected areas and the city. Water inundated low-lying regions, including Chhatri Kanda and Basti Bara, where multiple homes collapsed. Wheat stocks and other agricultural produce stored in these houses were swept away by the floodwaters.
Residents Appeal for Emergency Relief
Residents of the impacted areas expressed deep concern over their financial losses and appealed to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz for immediate intervention and an emergency relief package. They reported that their houses, livestock, wheat stocks, and valuables had been damaged or destroyed by the floodwaters. The affected individuals urged authorities to launch relief activities promptly.
The situation remains critical as further rainfall is forecasted, raising fears of additional flooding and damage. Local authorities have been advised to remain on high alert and coordinate rescue and relief efforts.
