Police Encounter in Chak Jhumra Leaves Suspect Injured

A suspected criminal sustained injuries during what police describe as an armed encounter with the Crime Control Department (CCD) in the industrial zone of Chak Jhumra. The incident led to the suspect being rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent medical treatment.

Checkpoint Stop Turns Violent

According to official accounts, the situation unfolded when a police team, led by Lyallpur Town CCD In-charge Inspector Hassan Siddique Cheema, established a security checkpoint. The location was near Ayub Research Board Chowk in the Factory Area. The officers were conducting routine checks when they noticed three individuals on a motorcycle who appeared suspicious.

Exchange of Fire Erupts

The police team signaled for the motorcycle riders to stop. However, instead of complying with the order, the men allegedly opened indiscriminate fire towards the officers present. This prompted the police to return fire in what became a brief but intense exchange.

During the crossfire, one of the suspects on the motorcycle, identified as 32-year-old Khurram Shehzad, was hit. He suffered a bullet injury to his leg. The other two individuals managed to flee from the scene, evading capture for the time being.

Aftermath and Investigation

Following the encounter, the injured Khurram Shehzad was immediately shifted to a hospital where his condition is reported to be stable. The police have launched a search operation to apprehend the two accomplices who escaped. The area around the checkpoint was cordoned off as investigators collected forensic evidence, including spent bullet casings, to piece together the exact sequence of events.

This incident highlights the ongoing efforts and risks faced by law enforcement agencies like the CCD in combating street crime and criminal activities in urban and industrial areas. The police have reiterated their commitment to maintaining law and order, stating that such operations against suspected criminals will continue.
