Police in Wah Cantonment are actively searching for several suspects linked to the brutal murder of an expatriate woman in Rawalpindi. The victim, Sumaira Aziz, was shot dead inside her residence in Lalazar Colony on the night of December 30, 2025.
Chilling Details of the Night Emerge
According to the First Information Report (FIR), the case was registered based on the complaint of a police sub-inspector. Law enforcers were alerted about the crime and arrived at the scene to find the victim's relatives preparing to transport her body to Tehsil Headquarter Hospital (THQ) in Taxila.
The primary account of the incident comes from Sana Khan, the sister of the deceased. She informed investigators that Sumaira had returned to Pakistan from Qatar just a week prior, where she lived with her husband, Suleman. On the fateful night, a gathering of male relatives, including her father Muhammad Aziz, uncles Faisal and Shaukat, and others named Waleed, Israr, and Sabir, had taken place earlier in the evening.
A Premeditated Attack Unfolds
Sana's statement paints a harrowing picture. She recounted that around 10:20 PM, there was knocking at the door. Despite her and Sumaira's pleas, their aunt Saeeda opened the door after receiving a call from her husband, Imtiaz, in Qatar. Waleed and Israr entered, while Sabir stood guard at the entrance.
The situation escalated when Suleman, the victim's husband, called from Qatar and instructed Saeeda to let Waleed speak to Sumaira. The men then took Sumaira to a first-floor living room. Sana followed but was ordered away after Suleman again called, telling Saeeda to "let them take care of Sumaira." Moments later, at approximately 10:30 PM, gunshots rang out. Sana stated that Israr and Waleed shot Sumaira dead before fleeing the scene.
Police Investigation and Legal Action
The police have registered the FIR under serious sections of the Pakistan Penal Code:
- Section 302 for intentional murder
- Section 311 for a non-compoundable offence, which includes honor killing
- Section 109 for abetment to the crime
A senior police officer familiar with the case indicated that preliminary findings point to a family dispute as the motive. According to Sana's testimony, the murder stemmed from an incident in Qatar where Suleman allegedly caught Sumaira talking to another man on the phone. The officer assured that the investigation would explore all angles, with special teams formed to apprehend the accused under the supervision of senior officials.
Other Incidents of Violence Against Women
In a separate but related context of violence, Ratta Amral police arrested a man named Hamza Shakeel for assaulting his wife, Maham. She reported sustained abuse from her husband and in-laws, culminating in a severe beating on December 9, after which she was locked in a room without food for two days. Fearing for her life, she sought refuge at her mother's house.
Additionally, Cantonment police arrested an individual for videotaping women in the washrooms of Cantonment General Hospital, highlighting ongoing concerns about women's safety and privacy.
As the investigation into Sumaira Aziz's murder continues, the Wah Cantonment police face public pressure to swiftly arrest all suspects named in this tragic case.
