ICT Police Launch Intensive Security Operations Across Islamabad
In a significant crackdown on criminal activities and illegal residency, the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police executed 45 large-scale search and combing operations throughout various sectors of the federal capital over the past week. These efforts resulted in the detention of 373 suspected individuals, including 64 Afghan nationals, for further verification as part of a broader initiative to bolster public safety.
Comprehensive Checks and Arrests Made
According to an official statement provided to APP on Sunday, police teams conducted thorough inspections during these operations. They checked a total of 5,669 individuals, 2,553 households, and 739 shops. Additionally, 1,600 motorcycles and 535 vehicles were scrutinized, leading to the impoundment of 18 vehicles and 147 motorcycles for various violations.
The operations yielded substantial arrests, with seven proclaimed offenders wanted in serious criminal cases being apprehended. Furthermore, 21 individuals accused of involvement in drug peddling, illegal weapons possession, and other illicit activities were also taken into custody.
Significant Seizures of Contraband and Weapons
During the arrests, police recovered a notable quantity of narcotics, including 150 grams of heroin and 311 grams of ice, along with 20 bottles of liquor. In terms of weaponry, the seizures were equally impactful, encompassing illegal arms such as a Kalashnikov, three rifles, seven pistols, a dagger, and a large cache of ammunition.
Legal actions were also pursued against 55 individuals for violations of the Tenancy Act, underscoring the multifaceted approach of the operations aimed at addressing various legal infractions.
Enhanced Participation and Future Plans
The official highlighted that lady police officials actively participated in these operations, which were carried out under a comprehensive security plan. The primary objective was to curb crime and strengthen law and order in Islamabad, with assurances that such grand search operations will continue under the directives of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad.
This proactive stance by the ICT Police reflects ongoing efforts to maintain security and combat illegal activities in the capital, ensuring a safer environment for residents through sustained vigilance and enforcement.
