Islamabad police successfully apprehended a high-profile criminal following a brief but intense exchange of gunfire at a security checkpoint in the capital on Tuesday. The incident, which unfolded in the Karachi Company area, led to the arrest of a suspect wanted in connection with more than a dozen serious crimes.
Shootout at Security Checkpoint
According to officials from the Karachi Company Police Station, the confrontation began when a police team was conducting routine checks. Two armed suspects on a motorcycle opened fire on the officers in an attempt to evade inspection. The police team, positioned at the checkpoint, promptly returned fire, leading to a brief shootout.
During the exchange, one of the suspects, identified as Shoaib, also known as Shoaibi Qasai, sustained gunshot injuries and was immediately subdued and arrested at the scene. In a twist, police revealed that Shoaib was actually wounded by gunfire from his own fleeing accomplice during the chaotic attack. The other suspect managed to escape under the cover of the confrontation.
Criminal History and Recovery
Investigations confirmed that the arrested individual was no ordinary lawbreaker. Shoaib was a wanted criminal in more than 14 serious criminal cases already registered with the Islamabad Police. Following his arrest, a search was conducted which yielded significant evidence.
Police recovered a haul of illegal items from the suspect, including:
- Stolen cash
- Illegal weapons
- The motorcycle used in the attack, which was allegedly involved in multiple prior criminal incidents
Officers stated that the suspect later confessed to his involvement in several crimes committed within the jurisdiction of the Karachi Company Police Station.
Ongoing Manhunt and Investigation
Authorities have launched a comprehensive search operation to track down and apprehend the accomplice who managed to flee. Further investigation into the network and activities of the arrested criminal is actively underway.
Thankfully, no police officers were harmed in the incident. Officials credited their safety to the protective measures in place, specifically the use of bulletproof jackets, which shielded them during the firefight.
