In a brazen daylight robbery, armed criminals made off with a substantial sum of Rs6.1 million from employees of a private company in Karachi's upscale Clifton area on Wednesday. The incident unfolded in Block 7 of Clifton, falling under the jurisdiction of the Boat Basin police station, sending shockwaves through the local business community.
Details of the Robbery Incident
According to official reports, unidentified armed men intercepted the company employees and, at gunpoint, snatched the cash before fleeing the scene. SSP South Mahzoor Ali provided critical context, revealing that the employees had just withdrawn the Rs6.1 million from a bank located in Clifton Block 7. After completing the transaction, they were en route back to their office when the robbery occurred.
Sequence of Events Leading to the Crime
SHO Boat Basin Rashid Ali elaborated on the circumstances that preceded the theft. He explained that two employees of the company had opted to use a motorcycle instead of a car to travel to the bank for the cash withdrawal. On their return journey, their motorcycle suffered a flat tyre, forcing them to stop at a nearby tyre shop for repairs.
After the tyre was fixed, the employees resumed their trip to the office. However, during this leg of the journey, they were intercepted by armed assailants riding two motorcycles. The criminals, totaling four suspects, stopped the employees and snatched the bag containing the cash at gunpoint before making a swift escape.
Police Investigation and Response
In the aftermath of the robbery, law enforcement authorities have launched a comprehensive investigation. The police have recorded detailed statements from the company employees involved in the incident. Additionally, efforts are underway to obtain and analyze CCTV footage from the surrounding area to identify the perpetrators.
