Maryam Nawaz Launches Lahore Phase II: 6,284 Streets to be Upgraded
Lahore Development Plan Phase II Inaugurated by Maryam Nawaz

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif officially launched the second phase of the ambitious Lahore Development Plan on Sunday, initiating a comprehensive urban infrastructure overhaul across the provincial capital.

Project Details and Implementation Timeline

During a high-level meeting chaired by the chief minister, the final approval was granted for Phase II of this massive development initiative. Maryam Nawaz emphasized that quality standards would not be compromised throughout the execution of Lahore's uplift work and declared that any delays in project completion would be unacceptable.

The ambitious timeline sets June 30 next year as the completion date for upgrading all 6,284 streets included in this phase. The distribution of work involves 5,798 streets under Municipal Corporation Lahore (MCL) jurisdiction, while 486 streets will be modernized by the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA).

Comprehensive Urban Transformation

Maryam Nawaz articulated her vision for Lahore's transformation, stating that every part of the city would be restored with dignity. She assured residents they would experience tangible improvements in their neighborhoods, with the upgrading of more than 6,000 streets transforming localities into what she described as "symbols of pride" for citizens.

The Lahore Development Plan represents a collaborative effort between MCL and WASA, covering an extensive area that includes:

  • Nine zones across the city
  • 274 union councils
  • Approximately 13 million residents

Sustainable Development Impact

This infrastructure project contributes significantly to multiple Sustainable Development Goals, particularly focusing on:

  • Good health and well-being for residents
  • Clean water and sanitation facilities
  • Sustainable cities and communities
  • Climate action initiatives

Key infrastructure components include new sewerage lines designed to prevent urban flooding, enhanced sanitation systems to reduce public health risks, and improved commuting infrastructure benefiting both residents and visitors to Lahore.

The chief minister's personal involvement and strict monitoring of the project timeline underscore the government's commitment to delivering visible improvements in Lahore's urban landscape within the specified deadline.
