PMD Forecasts Dry Weather with Cold in Northern Hills

Pakistan Meteorological Department Issues Weather Forecast for Next 24 Hours

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) released its latest weather forecast on Thursday, indicating that most parts of the country will experience predominantly dry conditions over the next 24 hours. However, hilly areas are expected to remain cold and partly cloudy, with some isolated precipitation events.

Regional Weather Breakdown Across Pakistan

According to the Met Office, daytime temperatures in the plain areas of Pakistan are likely to stay above normal levels, contributing to relatively hot conditions. In contrast, upper regions such as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir may see light rain-thunderstorms accompanied by light snowfall over high mountains.

Islamabad and Adjoining Areas: Partly cloudy to dry weather is anticipated, with the possibility of gusty winds during the afternoon hours.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Most districts are expected to have mainly dry weather, while upper regions will remain partly cloudy and cold. Isolated light rain-thunderstorms with snowfall over high mountains may occur in districts including Chitral, Upper Dir, Swat, Kohistan, and Bajaur.

Punjab: Dry weather is likely to prevail in most districts, with hot conditions during the daytime. Gusty winds may develop in the plains in the afternoon, and partly cloudy conditions could form in upper and central districts. Hill stations like Murree and Galiyat are forecast to experience partly cloudy weather with cold mornings and nights.

Sindh: Hot and dry weather is predicted for most districts across the province.

Balochistan: Mainly dry conditions are expected, although northern areas may face colder temperatures during the morning and night hours.

Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan: Partly cloudy weather, along with light rain-thunderstorms and snowfall over high mountains, may occur at a few isolated places.

Implications and Advisory

The PMD advises residents in hilly areas to prepare for cold conditions and potential snowfall, which could affect travel and daily activities. In plain regions, the above-normal temperatures might lead to increased heat stress, so staying hydrated and avoiding prolonged exposure to the sun is recommended. The forecast highlights the diverse climatic patterns across Pakistan, from the arid plains to the snowy northern mountains.
