Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has reviewed the provincial Annual Development Programme (ADP) for the fiscal year 2025-26, which has been allocated a substantial budget of Rs305 billion. The meeting, held at the Chief Minister's Office, focused on evaluating the progress and implementation of various development schemes across the province.
Key Focus Areas
The development plan prioritizes infrastructure development, healthcare facilities, and educational institutions. The Chief Minister emphasized the need for timely completion of ongoing projects and directed authorities to ensure transparency and quality in execution. She also stressed the importance of public-private partnerships to accelerate development in key sectors.
Infrastructure Development
A significant portion of the ADP is dedicated to infrastructure projects, including the construction and rehabilitation of roads, bridges, and water supply schemes. The plan aims to improve connectivity in rural areas and enhance the overall quality of life for residents. Special attention is being given to the development of the southern Punjab region, which has historically lagged in terms of infrastructure.
Healthcare Sector
The healthcare sector has been allocated a substantial budget to upgrade existing hospitals and establish new healthcare facilities. The plan includes the provision of modern medical equipment, recruitment of trained staff, and expansion of telemedicine services to remote areas. The Chief Minister also reviewed the progress of the Punjab Health Insurance Scheme, which aims to provide financial protection to low-income families.
Education and Youth Development
In the education sector, the ADP focuses on improving the quality of education through teacher training programs, provision of missing facilities in schools, and promotion of information technology in classrooms. Scholarships and vocational training programs have also been introduced to empower the youth and enhance their employability. The Chief Minister directed the education department to ensure that all schools meet the required standards within the next year.
Monitoring and Transparency
To ensure effective implementation, the Chief Minister has established a monitoring mechanism that will track the progress of each project on a monthly basis. She warned that any delays or substandard work would not be tolerated and that strict action would be taken against responsible officials. The government has also launched an online portal where citizens can track the progress of development projects in their areas.
The Rs305 billion ADP is expected to create thousands of job opportunities and stimulate economic growth in the province. The Chief Minister expressed confidence that the plan would bring about a visible transformation in the lives of the people of Punjab.
