Deadly Clash Erupts in Paharpur
At least six people were killed and several others injured in a violent clash between two groups over a land dispute in Paharpur, a town in Dera Ismail Khan district, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. The incident occurred on Wednesday, according to local police officials.
The clash reportedly involved the use of firearms and heavy weapons, escalating from a long-standing disagreement over property boundaries. Police and rescue teams rushed to the scene after reports of the violence.
Details of the Incident
According to District Police Officer (DPO) Dera Ismail Khan, the clash took place in the limits of Paharpur police station. The deceased include individuals from both groups involved in the dispute. The injured were shifted to nearby hospitals, where some are said to be in critical condition.
"The situation is under control now, and we have deployed additional police personnel to prevent further violence," the DPO said. He added that a case has been registered against the suspects, and raids are being conducted to arrest those involved.
Impact and Aftermath
The incident has created a tense atmosphere in the area, with locals fearing further retaliation. Authorities have imposed Section 144 in the vicinity to maintain law and order. The district administration has also initiated a peace jirga to resolve the underlying land dispute.
Land disputes are common in rural areas of Pakistan, often leading to violent confrontations due to weak legal mechanisms and deep-rooted family feuds. The Paharpur clash highlights the urgent need for effective dispute resolution mechanisms in the region.
