LAHORE – Pakistan Navy’s Fida Hussain clinched the men’s wheelchair tennis singles title at the 2nd Sohail University National Tennis Championship, held at the Modern Club in Karachi. The event drew 11 participants from across the country, underscoring the rising popularity and development of wheelchair tennis in Pakistan.
Final Match Highlights
In the final, Fida Hussain defeated Sajjad Khan in straight sets, 6-2, to secure the championship crown. His victory added another milestone to an already distinguished career that includes representing Pakistan in six international wheelchair tennis tournaments across Asia, including the Asian Para Games in Hangzhou, China.
Prize Distribution
Cash prizes totaling Rs 154,000 were distributed among the winners and participants.
Special Guest and Support
The event was graced by Zainul Abideen, President of the Disabled Welfare Association, who attended both the competition and the closing ceremony as a special guest. A prominent advocate for athletes with disabilities, Abideen also serves as Vice President of the Karachi Tennis Association and the District Keamari Tennis Association.
Fida’s international appearances have been made possible through the collective support of the National Paralympic Committee Pakistan, the International Tennis Federation, the Pakistan Tennis Federation, and the Sports Department of the Government of Sindh. These organizations have played a key role in promoting wheelchair tennis and providing international exposure to Pakistani athletes.

Speaking on the occasion, Muhammad Khalid Rehmani, member of the Wheelchair Tennis Committee of the Asian Tennis Federation and Vice President of the Pakistan Tennis Federation, reaffirmed the federation’s commitment to the growth of wheelchair tennis in the country. He stressed the importance of creating greater competitive opportunities for athletes with disabilities at both national and international levels.
