Former South Africa captain Johan Botha has been appointed as a consultant for the Netherlands men's cricket team, joining the coaching staff for their upcoming Cricket World Cup League 2 matches in July. The 44-year-old will work with the squad during home fixtures against Namibia and Nepal in Utrecht.
Botha's Recent Coaching Background
Botha previously served as head coach of Queensland Bulls and Brisbane Heat in Australian domestic cricket from 2024 under a two-year contract. He resigned from that position in June 2025, with one year remaining on his deal. This consultant role marks his first coaching assignment since leaving Australia.
He also has coaching experience in franchise leagues including the Pakistan Super League (PSL), Caribbean Premier League (CPL), and International League T20 (ILT20).
Statement from Botha
"I really look forward to joining the Netherlands team in this important period in the World Cup League 2 against Namibia and Nepal," Botha said. "Having tracked their progress over the past few years it will be great to work with the players, coaches and staff."
Netherlands in Transition
The Dutch team is undergoing a period of change. Head coach Ryan Cook stepped down in June, with former South Africa international Heino Kuhn, the batting coach, taking charge for the CWC League 2 matches. Netherlands play their next game against Nepal on June 23 in Utrecht.
Botha's Playing Career
Botha played 78 One Day Internationals (ODIs) and 40 Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) for South Africa as an all-rounder over a seven-year international career. His experience is expected to bolster the Netherlands coaching setup during a critical phase in their World Cup qualification campaign.
