Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski announced on Saturday that he will leave the club this summer upon the expiration of his contract. The 37-year-old Polish forward, who joined Barcelona from Bayern Munich in 2022, scored 119 goals in 191 appearances across all competitions during his four-year tenure.
Mission Accomplished
Lewandowski helped Barcelona secure three La Liga titles, including the current season's championship, and the Copa del Rey in 2025. In a heartfelt Instagram post, he stated, "After four years full of challenges and hard work, it's time to move on. I leave with the feeling that the mission is complete. Four seasons, three championships."
When Lewandowski arrived, Barcelona was in a period of financial struggle and low performance. He played a pivotal role in restoring the club to the summit of Spanish football and making it competitive in the Champions League once again. "Barca is back where it belongs," he added. "I will never forget the love I received from the fans from my very first days. Catalonia is my place on earth."
Farewell Match and Coach's Tribute
Lewandowski will play his final match at Barcelona's Camp Nou stadium on Sunday against Real Betis, with coach Hansi Flick confirming that he will start. Flick, who previously coached Lewandowski at Bayern Munich, said, "He spoke with the team, said goodbye, and that it was a great time for him here in Barcelona. I've worked with Robert now for years, and we won together nine trophies. All the titles I've won were with him. For me, it's a privilege to work with him. He's a professional player... every day he gave the best with his body to be at the highest level. He's a perfect role model for young players... this is why he's still playing at this level." Flick described Lewandowski as "a fantastic human, but also a world-class player."
Legacy at Barcelona
Barcelona paid tribute on social media, saying, "Thank you, Robert Lewandowski, for every goal, every fight, and every magical moment wearing these colors. He arrived as a star, he leaves as a legend." Lewandowski, one of the most prolific strikers of his generation, finished as La Liga's top scorer in his debut season under Xavi Hernandez. This season, under Flick, he was rotated with Spain international Ferran Torres, scoring 18 goals in 44 games.
Lewandowski did not confirm his next destination, but he has been linked with clubs in Saudi Arabia and the United States.
