The Pakistan women's cricket team has been penalized by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for maintaining a slow over-rate during their opening match of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026 against India. The match took place at Edgbaston in Birmingham.
Details of the Penalty
On Tuesday, the ICC announced that Pakistan was found to be one over short of the required rate after time allowances were taken into account. Consequently, the players were fined five percent of their match fees, as per Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which addresses minimum over-rate offences.
Match Officials and Acceptance
The sanction was imposed by Trudy Anderson of the ICC International Panel of Match Referees. The charge was leveled by on-field umpires Claire Polosak and Jacqueline Williams, along with third umpire Eloise Sheridan and fourth umpire Sue Redfern. Pakistan captain Fatima Sana accepted the offence and the proposed penalty, thus avoiding the need for a formal hearing.
